
EDUCATION & TRAINING
He studied medicine at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem for the first year. In the years 1981-1986 he graduated in medicine (MD) from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. During the internship year, he worked at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, and from 1988-1992, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Beilinson Hospital, in Petah Tikva. He became a member of the Rabin Medical Center team as an eye doctor. In 1993, he graduated with a Master's Degree (with honors) in Ophthalmology (MO), from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel Aviv. In the years 1997-1998 he underwent a clinical and research sub-specialization (fellowship) in the field of glaucoma and intraocular pressure at the University of California, San Diego, USA and serves as a glaucoma specialist ever since. In 2005, he graduated with a Master's Degree (with honors) in Health Administration (MHA) from the Ben Gurion University, Beer Sheva.

EXPERIENCE
Prof. Dan Gaton is an ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in Glaucoma, optic nerves, visual fields and intraocular pressure. During his career, as an eye doctor and after his professional training as a Glaucoma specialist in San Diego, California, Prof. Dan Gaton has held many positions, including: Director of Ophthalmology Clinics at Rabin Medical Center, Deputy Director of Beilinson Hospital, Chairman of the Israeli Glaucoma Society, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Chairman of the Israeli Ophthalmological Society (IOS) and Head of the Institute for International Scientific Exchanges in Medical Sciences, Tel Aviv University. Prof. Gaton has been the Director of the Clalit Health Services Glaucoma Institute in Tel Aviv for many years, and a senior ophthalmologist at Beilinson Hospital and has been appointed Full Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University.
He serves for more than two decades as a member of the Israeli Standard Institution Committees for contact lenses, optic spectacles and sunglasses. Prof. Gaton is a senior examiner of residents of the Scientific Council, for the final board exams in Ophthalmology before receiving their specialization license as an eye doctor. In parallel with his clinical and managerial pursuits, Prof. Gaton kept engaging in research, teaching students and residents as well as other sectors such as nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. He presented at numerous conferences in Israel and around the world and is a member of several professional societies from Israel and around the world, including the World Glaucoma Association.
